[Drag] VMP Test and Tune: Oct 2024

First time drag racing*

Some friends floated the idea of going to a drag strip test and tune day at Virginia Motorsports Park about a month ago, and I put it on my calendar and then promptly forgot about it. Until the notification came up the day before. I figured it would be a fun way to assess how much power the GTI is making since the IS38 swap, and try something different.

*This wasn’t really my first time drag racing - I’ve been once before about 12 years ago in a 2.0L Mazda3, though realistically I just was doing some passes for my tuner at the time as that was part of a deal for getting a discounted tune - to share results.

All in all I had a lot of fun and will definitely be going back. It was something that required minimal prep, and filled some time in between autocross events. I think this will be a very useful tool for sorting out some ECU and DSG related tune stuff in the future.

While my trip reports are generally not in video form, I thought I’d try something a bit different this time around.
